How Do I Start My Healing Journey?

Starting a healing journey can feel overwhelming. I completely get it. Because I’ve been there.

You may find yourself wondering: Where do I begin? What if I do it wrong? What’s going to come of this?

The truth is, there is no “perfect” way to start.

Healing isn’t about following a rigid plan—it’s about choosing, daily, to take small, intentional steps toward wholeness.

It’s about reaching for the next Small Right Action when the day already feels hard, because you believe you’re worth the work.

When I tell the story of my own healing journey, I often pinpoint that I started with a prayer.

I had gotten to a point in my life where I didn’t like who I had become, and I knew something had to give. My way wasn’t working.

I put a prayer out into the Universe that sounded something like, “I can’t do this anymore, I am drowning, please help me save myself.”

Following that moment, left and right, things that would ultimately help me started coming into my energy field… books, podcasts, people, courses, coaches, therapists (yes, several), groups… and I just started reaching for all of it.

In hindsight, everything helped. Some stuff was there for a reason, some for a season, some things became permanent fixtures in my own wellness toolkit.

The truth is, there’s no single “right” way to begin.

Healing doesn’t come with a roadmap—it unfolds step by step, moment by moment. But usually, it starts with a little awareness. It starts the moment you say to yourself, “I recognize something isn’t right here, and I’ve had enough.”

The First Step

The first step is awareness. That’s the easy part.

From there, it’s about doing better, now that you know better. That’s the hard part.

And it’s hard because up until now, you’ve probably been operating on autopilot. The neural pathways going on in your brain keep on keeping on because the wiring is solid. Once you know that, you can start to unplug a few things, and rewire yourself for a new life.

Sounds weird right? But this is exactly what creating new habits looks like in action! And it’s going to take practice, repetition, and tenacity.

So how to begin…

Awareness simply begins when you start to notice what feels heavy, stuck, or painful in your life. What’s not working? Take inventory.

This is why I created the FCW Pie of Life Self-Assessment, to help you take inventory, and visualize what’s not working.

Now That You Know

Instead of rushing to “fix” it all at once, allow yourself to simply acknowledge what hurts. Awareness opens the door to curiosity.

Curiosity is where healing grows.

This can look like being curious about “what’s underneath your patterns,” or “when did this start?”, and, “how can I give myself what I need right now?”

Ask yourself right here: What might help me feel supported? What small practice could bring me peace?

Maybe it’s journaling, meditation, therapy, a daily walk, or simply drinking more water. Whatever you’d like to try, just try it! You won’t know if it works until you make the time to give it a go.

Healing doesn’t happen in grand gestures—it’s built on Small Right Actions, repeated with compassion and courage, over time.

Know This: You Don’t Need to Know the Whole Path to Take the First Step.

Start with something simple. Let that act be your way of telling yourself: I am worthy of healing. I am ready to begin.

God will show up with the rest, just stay ready to try it all!

The journey won’t be linear, but it will be yours, and every small step that you take towards healing is a victory.

And in time, those steps ultimately create the transformation you’ve been longing for!
