Passion, Purpose, Calling

Alright guys, this week we’re talking about something that I think often gets tangled up in our minds and hearts, and that’s: Passion, Purpose, and Calling.

Because I think we think they’re all a little bit the same, but they’re not. Let’s break it down.

We hear these words tossed around like they’re interchangeable.

"Follow your passion!"
"Find your purpose!"
"Answer the call!"

But they’re not the same.

And I think that when we conflate them, we can end up chasing the wrong things, putting pressure on ourselves to figure it all out right now, and feeling like something’s wrong with us when the path isn’t clear.

So let’s untangle it all shall we?

❤️ Passion ❤️

Passion is the spark.

Passion is the thing that lights you up, even if only for a moment.

It might be painting, organizing your pantry, talking about healing (yup, that’s your girl, that’s me), writing poetry, building spreadsheets, dancing, or designing flower beds…

Passion is ENERGY. And it’s often fleeting, changing, or evolving over time.

Which is okay! It’s not supposed to be your whole life. It’s supposed to make you feel alive.

When I was super little I was passionate about Zelda… now I’m passionate about healing your trauma, and digging into conspiracy theories. Passion changes.

🌿 Purpose 🌿

Purpose on the other hand is deeper.

Purpose is the ‘WHY’ that runs through your life like a thread. It’s usually tied to your values and beliefs.

Purpose is often about contribution, meaning, and alignment. It may not always feel “fun” like passion, but it’s fulfilling. Purpose is the reason you keep going — even when it’s hard.

I feel that my purpose is to serve the world by combining the things I’m passionate about (healing, food, Faith, and thriving), with what I’m GOOD at doing. I value growth, and I believe it’s possible for anyone. So I created this community to serve those who seek to grow, and heal and thrive. Simple.

I’m good at creating pretty much anything I can think to create whether with my hands or technology. I’m good at writing, art making, designing, organizing and presenting information… which, I think, as I share that, you can see how that’s all over the place in this community.

So even when this doesn’t feel fun (although, it’s always pretty fun for me!) I feel passionate about continuing because this gives me a sense of PURPOSE (also a slice of the FCW Pie, for good reason).

🔔 Calling 🔔

Calling is the pull. Calling is even bigger.

Because it’s often spiritual.

It’s the sense that something is asking for your attention — or asking to be birthed through you.

For me, building this community was a calling.

A calling might feel inconvenient, overwhelming, or totally unexpected.

But it tends to come with a sense of clarity and peace underneath the fear. It says: this is yours to do.

In scripture, Esther 4:14 reads: “For if you remain silent at this time, [a solution] will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

This is an urging for us to understand that we each have a unique role, and unique responsibility “for such a time as this.”

This can honestly be confusing. And I think it can easily leave us feeling stuck, if we’re not in a position to figure out what we’re being called to do.

If that’s how you feel, DO NOT PUSH. It takes a lot of internal work to get to a place where… you can hear it and feel it, you have a capacity to follow it, and/or the Faith to see it through.

I could not have heeded the call of building this community had I not first done the work of healing my own life. Learning my own lessons. Trying and failing and experimenting with all of the methods and madness, books and podcasts, recipes, etc.

And I think sometimes we might run into feeling like our passions must be our purpose, or that if we’re not making money or impacting people from them, we must be failing.

No.

Don’t wait around for the calling. You don’t know when it’s going to come. Instead: walk the path of purpose, follow your passions, and let the calling emerge over time.

We might think we’ve missed our chance, because we didn’t “find our purpose” by 30, 40, 50, or beyond. Y’all.

I would have loved, LOVED to have founded this community at 20. Call myself a CEO by 22. Monetize by 30. Build an empire by 35.

But I have learned one this for sure in all of this time, and it’s that my plan… ain’t got shit on God’s plan.

Here’s what I want you to remember:
Passions fuel you.
Purpose grounds you.
Calling guides you.

You don’t have to have all three figured out at once.

And sometimes, they overlap beautifully.

Other times, they live in different corners of your life — and that’s okay!

God’s. Plan.

Trust the process.

Because the journey is what is meant to be achieved anyway.

Be Well
